Celebrating his 25th year as club dj, Markie Gee has followed a very eclectic musical path. He has taken turns as a college radio programmer, mixshow host, record pool director, music journalist, talent buyer, promoter, club music director, rave producer, tour manager, booking agent and traveling dj. Opening for Erick Morillo, Robbie Rivera, DJ Disciple, Roger Sanchez, Danny Tenaglia, Tom Sawyer, Dave Dresden, Doc Martin, Todd Terry etc. as well as headlining A-list clubs throughout North America and Europe, Gee is clearly one of the world’s most versatile talents. Gee’s superb programming and floor management skills have been honed as he represents Deep Red Records (UK) and GaGa Records (Luxembourg) on tour and at home.
Gee has always been an “early adapter”, quick to discern what is hot and not afraid to stand apart. Gee has taken advantage of his long-standing position as a music industry tastemaker to forge relationships with pioneers such a Kris Bones, Moby, Danny Tenaglia, Hank Shocklee/Public Enemy and Doug Wimbush/Living Colour. A chance meeting at a NIN / Tackhead show with producer Adrian Sherwood and Wimbush sparked Gee to become a fulltime dj. Inspired by artists like Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk, PiL and Prince and DJs Mark Kamins, Junior Vasquez, Tony Humphries, Tedd Patterson, Grant Nelson, Josh Wink and Kerri Chandler, Gee has always emphasized playing quality music that will stand the test of time. Gee is one of the original “electronic” djs from New England, who considers jazz, disco, funk, hard rock and alternative/punk music to be among his biggest influences.
After spending the past few years toiling as a mortgage broker, Gee has returned to his roots with a vengeance. Gee maintains a substantial following in the deep house and electronic dance camps. He has a podcast on Byron Burke’s House Music Channel and numerous guest mixes on KCRB and SS Radio UK. Gee hosts weekly mixshows on Where’s The Culture House Radio in London and Sobel Nation Radio in NYC. Gee currently spins Who’s Your Daddy Saturday’s at Club 89 and is developing a new monthly event with his partner Davidson Ospina of Ospina Digital/Open Bar Music. Gee has been selectively choosing high-profile gigs specializing in an uptempo, funky, high energy program that is musical, dynamic and incorporates elements of Latin, Caribbean, European, African and retro sounds. Gee is a global ambassador for floor-friendly, upfront dance music exemplifying professionalism without the attitude.
